About Us
Transhandy Pty Ltd is a family-owned logistics company established in 2003, specialising in sea freight container transport for import and export throughout Victoria. Based in Melbourne’s west, we focus on efficiently moving shipping containers between the Port of Melbourne and our clients’ sites, including managing container dehire (return of empty containers) services. Over the years, Transhandy has built a reputation as a trusted provider of container transport solutions, utilising a modern fleet (sideloader and standard trailer trucks) to ensure reliable and timely deliveries. With a commitment to innovation and service excellence, we now offer end-to-end container handling—from port haulage to secure storage—tailored to meet our customers’ logistics needs.
As our operations grow and industry technologies evolve, Transhandy is investing in advanced IT systems to streamline logistics processes. We are focused on innovation, enhancing our technology and adopting automation to improve operations and customer experience. Therefore, we are seeking an experienced IT Systems Analyst (on-site) to lead these initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will operate at the intersection of our business and technology, evaluating the company’s computer systems and procedures and then designing solutions to help us operate more efficiently. The Systems Analyst will bridge the gap between our freight operations and IT perspective by analysing current processes, proposing and implementing improvements, and ensuring our information systems effectively support Transhandy’s container transport and supply chain activities. This on-site position, based at our Melbourne office (Laverton North VIC 3026), is critical to our digital transformation – we need an IT system analyst expert who can align our logistics operations with robust, scalable IT systems that drive efficiency, accuracy, and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Requirements Analysis: Work closely with end user (logistic planner, logistic controller and production manager) to formulate and document business requirements for our current in-house IT systems or enhancements. This involves investigating current processes and workflows in our container transport, identifying inefficiencies or gaps, and translating operational needs into technical specifications.
- Process Improvement: Analyse and evaluate existing systems (Transmate, One Stop and other relevant Logistic Software) used in our logistics and freight operations to pinpoint areas for improvement. Recommend optimal business practices and system functionalities that will increase efficiency, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy. For example, you might propose modifications or additional system components (such as a better fleet management module or an automated shipment tracking interface) to meet users’ needs and industry standards.
- System Solution Design & Documentation: Develop comprehensive system plans and functional specifications for approved improvements or new systems. Using data and process modelling techniques, create clear system design documents that software developers or vendors can use to build the solution. You will also prepare user-friendly documentation outlining new workflows and system features.
- Project Management: Take responsibility for executing system improvement projects from start to finish. Use project management methodologies (Agile or Waterfall as appropriate) to develop project plans, cost and resource estimates, and manage project timelines. You will coordinate with cross-functional logistics teams to ensure projects stay on schedule and within scope.
- System Implementation & Testing: Oversee the deployment of new systems or upgrades to ensure they meet quality standards and business requirements. This includes creating and implementing system test plans to verify that all features work as intended and that data integrity is maintained. You will conduct thorough testing, resolve any issues or bugs, and obtain user acceptance before full rollout.
- Training & Support: Create user guides and training materials, and conduct formal training sessions for staff on new or updated systems. As the Systems Analyst, you will act as a central reference point for system-related questions, providing guidance and support to the Transhandy team in their daily use of our logistics software. This includes troubleshooting problems, answering “how-to” inquiries, and ensuring users are confident and competent with the tools.
- Continuous Improvement & Integration: Actively consult with users, management, and IT developers to design further improvements to system functionality as needs evolve. You will keep abreast of emerging technologies (e.g. new freight tracking systems, warehouse management integrations, or EDI links with clients/port authorities) and assess their potential benefits for Transhandy. Where relevant, manage the integration of our systems with those of customers, suppliers, or third-party platforms to enable seamless data flow across the supply chain.
Required Qualifications And Experience
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is essential, as this occupation requires a high level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree qualification.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Systems Analyst or similar role, with a track record of evaluating and implementing IT systems to meet business needs. Prior exposure to the logistics, transportation, or supply chain industry is highly advantageous, as it provides insight into freight operations and challenges.
- Business & Technical Acumen: Strong knowledge of business process analysis and IT requirements-gathering techniques. Ability to understand complex operational workflows (such as order dispatch, container tracking, inventory management) and translate them into effective IT solutions. Skilled in developing functional specifications and workflow diagrams for system design.
- Project Management Skills: Proficiency in project management principles and tools to manage system development lifecycles. Able to coordinate multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver results within set timeframes. Familiarity with software development processes (SDLC) and methodologies like Agile is a plus.
- Quality Assurance: Experience in planning and executing system testing and quality assurance activities. Keen attention to detail to ensure system changes do not disrupt operations and that new features maintain data integrity and reliability.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively between non-technical staff and IT professionals. In this role, you must bridge the gap between end-users and developers, so the ability to clearly convey requirements, changes, and training instructions is critical. Proven ability to work with vendors, consultancies, or external IT partners to achieve project goals.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical and solution-oriented mindset. Capable of troubleshooting system issues under time pressure and devising workarounds or permanent fixes. Proactively identify potential improvements or risks in our IT setup and address them before they impact operations.
- Technology Skills: Solid understanding of enterprise software and databases. Hands-on experience with logistics or ERP systems (for example, transport management systems, freight tracking platforms, etc) would be beneficial. Competency in SQL, reporting tools, or basic scripting can be useful for data analysis and system customisation tasks.
