Our Bosch Australia Manufacturing Solutions (BAMS) department is a leader in design and development of special purpose equipment and machinery. We combine a passion for solving complex engineering challenges with unmatched expertise in supporting the manufacture of a wide and diverse industry base with our purpose-built machines. We are passionate as we strive for success within our experienced and highly skilled team. Due to the nature of position, some local and interstate travel may be required.

Job Description

We’re seeking a Degree-qualified Electrical Design Specialist to join our team, bridging the gap between design and build. You’ll produce high-quality electrical designs and enclosures for automated machinery that meet specifications, standards, and cost targets—ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient automation solutions.

The role is a full-time, 2-year fixed term opportunity with a possibility to extend, and is based at our headquarters in Clayton, Melbourne and may involve some local / regional and occasional interstate travel.

Position responsibilities will include:

  • Creating detailed electrical drawings and enclosure designs using EPlan P8.
  • Designing LV and ELV circuits, junction boxes, and electrical architecture for power, signal distribution, motors, drives, power supplies, and distributed I/O.
  • Generating accurate BOMs, documentation, and participate in design reviews to flag risks and optimize build outcomes.
  • Applying safety standards via risk assessments, peer reviews, and design audits.
  • Integrating industrial fieldbus protocols (Ether CAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, RS-232, RS-485) for automation systems.
  • Supporting prototyping and commissioning phases with hands‑on troubleshooting and assembly assistance.
  • Coordinating with project teams—including external suppliers and contract manufacturers—to align design with project timelines and budgets.
  • Providing time estimates, assisting build teams during commissioning and hand‑over phases.
  • Contributing to internal design standards to boost quality, reduce costs, and improve consistency.

Qualifications

We are looking for an innovative thinker who works well in a team environment, is results focused and displays a high level of attention to detail.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Significant experience in Special Purpose Machinery, automation applications and machine safety is essential.
  • Manufacturing or Industrial Automation industry experience.
  • Proficient in ePlan and/or other electrical CAD drafting tools.
  • Strong background in electrical hardware design, electrical drafting and parts list generation.
  • Natural leadership abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid time management and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Be open to occasional international and regional travel.
  • Microsoft Office skills.

If you’re a skilled electrical engineer who thrives on precision design, enjoys working across teams, and takes pride in safe, cost-effective automation, we’d love to hear from you!
